A Little Bit Dotty with Dolly & Dotty! *

It is no secret that I am a sucker for a vintage style dress, so when I kept seeing Dolly & Dotty popping up all over my social media newsfeed, and seeing they went up to a size 24, you can imagine how ecstatic I was when they agreed to send me something to review!

I was asked to give them a couple of styles I particularly liked, one of which was the Evelyn, and I was particularly drawn to the cherry print.  The lovely ladies at Dolly & Dotty advised they would get one of my choicest out to me and the very next day it all arrived, with a lovely free gift of this amazing tote bag, which has had lots of use since carrying my heels to change into once I get to work every day.

image

The dress has a high neckline, which is not my normal style, but this is why I wanted to try it as it is something different to what I normally wear. What you notice immediately with Dolly & Dotty is the exceptional quality. The quality is as good, if not better than, other vintage repro stores and without (in some cases) the price tag!

image

Wearing their size 24

I adore this dress, and in particular the print, and with the sun now finally making an appearance I am looking forward to wearing it lots and lots! I probably won’t wear the belt much though, a) because I am not much of a belt person anyway, but also b) not only with Dolly & Dotty, but with many other brands also I find the dresses/garments fit beautifully but the belts never seem to be the right size for me…. This was no exception, I find it small, even though the dress fit well, could even be deemed generous, but the belt was a struggle to get on the last hole (although I did as you can see…. just). Maybe I am an odd shape, but this hasn’t clouded my view in the slightest, and I only have praise and positive things to say about this brand and their products.

image

I know that some of my fellow Blogger Babes have reviewed items, and these can be found here (Rosie – in the same dress, see how it fits on a different size) and here (Tanya), and here you will see some of the other gems available at D&D.

Have you checked out Dolly & Dotty yet, do you in fact already have some of their products in your wardrobe?  I’d love to hear what you think of them…. I think they are fab!

Plus 40 Fabulous – April Edition – Skin Care

PLUS40FABULOUS ROUND

I’ve been a bit off radar recently as you know, so I have missed a few months of this great monthly group challenge…. However, make sure  you catch up with the other ladies, if you haven’t already.

This month Mookie came up with the idea of skincare regime, which is a toughie for me really.  Ever since I was in my 20’s I have dabbled every now and again, bought all the latest products by re-mortgaging my house, carried out the process maybe twice if I am lucky, and then the products collect dust somewhere in the house.

With this in mind, I don’t think I have suffered too badly for my lack of skincare, but then again in the infamous words of Debz….. “Fat don’t crack”…. Lol!

But what I do, sometimes, do when I take a selfie, and I think the skin isn’t looking quite as fresh as it could, I add a good old filter.  No girl should leave the house without one!

But here are a few pics for you to decide if I should have, may be, taken a bit more care of myself, some with and some without a filter…. You decide!

image image image image

No filter, and in one case, no make up!

image image image image

All with some form of filter…..

So, do you stick to a strict regime, go with the flow, or have a handy filter close by (shame they don’t work in real life eh?).

As I said earlier, make sure you check out the other babes, list below, you know the drill, click away and sit back with a cuppa.

Stopping by to say “Hi!”

Hey there pickles….

I’m sorry I haven’t been around lately, I’ve been struggling with my mental health, and have been trying to tackle that by way of starting Cognitive Behavourial Therapy (CBT).

I guess while putting so much effort into looking after myself in this department, something had to give, I’ve almost drained myself of being able to do much of anything else, including blogging.

image
I had so many plans for the blog in 2016, but it’s all taking a bit longer than I had hoped, but hopefully I’ll still get there… Eventually.

image

So, as the title says, I wanted to stop by and say hi, make sure you all still know I’m here, I haven’t run off anywhere, and keep an eye on my social media, IG etc. as I am just about managing to keep up with that.

LoveSwap FatFam Style!

image

I am sure in the past many of you have taken part in Secret Santa’s with friends, colleagues etc. I have taken part in a few in recent years with some of blogging buddies, at varying times in the year and not just at Christmas.   This time the gorgeous Sophie suggested a few of us take part in a Valentines themed swap, aptly naming it LoveSwap!

We were all allocated someone to send a gift to, with a budget of £10.00, and you wouldn’t receive a gift from the same person you were giving to…..  It was entirely optional whether you gave away in your gift who you were, I did send a card stating it was me, but it would be up to my giftee whether they opened that card or not…. Although I think everyone has pretty much worked it out or owned up by now!

Anyhoo…. Here is what my lovely gifter sent me, and I am ecstatic with my pretties, I cannot thank my LoveSwap enough.

There was also a lovely note inside on some awesome owl notepaper, which I am keeping the contents personal to me, but look at this!

imageI cannot tell you how very pleased I am to have bonded with this lovely lady over the last 12 months.   Although we had met back in 2014, we didn’t get to really know one another until the summer last year, and I think we both agree we wished we hadn’t left it as long.  My lovely person was the every so beautiful, in side and out, Kathryn of MissKathryn’s MissTakes.

I wore one of my items on Friday with my old faithful ice cream dress (previously Simply Be) and Janine Basil hair clip. I have yet to wear the badge, or find a nice frame for my card.

Ice Cream & Doughnuts… Nom nom nom!

Everyone will be doing their own post in relation to what they received, so be sure to check them all out as listed below. I’ve put a note next to the lady I sent to, so be sure to check out what I sent.

Trinkets Jewellery #realwomen Campaign

I wouldn’t normally like the term “real women”, in my mind ALL women are real women, but I will now explain what I really liked about this particular campaign.

I was drawn to the fact that Fiona, the brains behind Trinkets Jewellery is using women like me, you, and her over there to advertise her products.  She isn’t using models, photoshopped, and giving an unrealistic view on how we should look…. She is using all shapes and sizes, us! Read a bit more about it in Fiona’s words here, but basically she will provide a free item from her catalogue in exchange for some photos, sharing across your own social media platforms, and the right to use your photos to advertise on her website.  How utterly fab is that eh?

I told Fiona a bit about what I liked in a piece of jewellery, a bit about me and my style, and pointed her in the direction of my blog/social media to have a look and get some ideas of what piece to send me, and here it is!

Make sure to stop by Trinket Jewellery’s Social Media and give them a like/follow

Facebook
Twitter

Fiona did a great job choosing this piece for me, it is exactly what I would have chosen for myself, and you can grab this piece here, although once you step foot into the World of Trinkets you will be spoilt for choice, so beware!

I cannot wait to wear this out again, and hopefully on a bright sunny day so I can get some fab outdoors shots of this beauty, so keep your eyes peeled in the usual places!

Fashion Icons: Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds

So, if you know me or maybe follow my Instagram updates (see link at the bottom of this post if you don’t already follow but want to), you may already be aware that I absolutely love the Character Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds.  I am slowly trying to turn myself into our offices very own Penelope Garcia, and with styles like this, is it any wonder….

So, today I am channelling my inner Baby Girl, AKA the amazing Penelope Garcia……

Dress – Joe Browns from Simply Be UK, available here
Cardigan – Cardigan a Charity Shop find (struggling to find something similar)
Shoes – Old Dorothy Perkins picked up second hand, similar here
Tights – Donatella Tights, similar available here
Pin – Old and can’t even remember where I got it, but plenty available from Punky Pins

I am wearing the dress in a size 24, and it is true to size, very comfortable for day in the office, as it is made of soft stretch jersey.  There are plenty of lovely prints in the Joe Brown range that are screaming PG at me, they keep winking at me, you know how all the pretties wink at me!

I love this look, it is one that will get lots of wear I am sure.  Feeling like I should have put on a chunky necklace, but I will save that for next time.

Were you aware that Penelope (played by the stunning Kirsten Vangsness) share our Milliner… The ever so talented Lisa Jones from Off With Her Head MillineryOff With Her Head Millinery?  You will often see Penelope sporting an OWHH hair flower in the more recent episodes of Criminal Minds.  See below, matching hair flowers!

When You Find the Dress of Dreams…..

….. Buy it in ALL the colourways! * Warning Picture Heavy Post *

That’s what I did with the Lady Vintage Isabella, although I don’t actually have all the colourways (yet), but I do have 8 of them now, and it all started last July, when the amazing Curvy Wordy introduced me to my dress of dreams.

We all know how hard it is, whether you are a size 6 or a size 36, to find what suits our size and shape…. I have a friend who is the same size as me at a UK24, but things she looks amazing in do me now favours and vice versa, because although we are similar, we are different…. I have bigger boobs than she does, she is taller than me, our tummys are different.  She looks AMAZING in a tunic, whereas sometimes I look a little shapeless.

I fell in love with the Isabella the moment I put the first one on back on 18th July 2015…. I remember the date so well, the day I began my love affair with this dress.

The Most Recent Addition

image image image image image image And the ones in between!

(Apologies for some of the photo quality, I have stolen a number from my social media)

I have my eye on my next addition already, although I need pennies, so I am praying that a) it doesn’t go out of stock in my size before I get some; b) if it does go out of stock it is re-stocked!!!  See it here.

I am also secretly praying they bring it out in this amazing new print, seen here on one of the new Phoebe’s recently launched on the website.  Unfortunately, the Phoebe doesn’t work for me, again proving how we are all different, but it is worth finding what works for you and embracing it…. I did!

What is your clothing item of dreams, and have you bought it in multiple colourways?

#Plus40Fabulous January Edition – Fashion Icons of our Childhood

PLUS40FABULOUS ROUND

Welcome to this month’s theme, which was picked by Lee who said:

“How about we talk about how our teens/childhood influence our choices in clothes and things today.”

I was born in the mid 70’s, so really the 80’s is my time when I started to really know my own mind when it came to fashion.  I can particularly recall my 9th birthday (’83) and I was having a party.  I went shopping for an outfit with my Mum and Nan, and found some amazing trousers similar to those worn by Oliver Newton John as Sandy at the end of Grease…. Needless to say, I didn’t actually get them, and ended up resembling ONJ as the earlier Sandy in a pink & white gingham ensemble instead.

image

Since then, and in recent years I have most definitely experimented more in my fashion, and gone with what I like, and at times have started to resemble the closing scene Sandy on occasion….

image

I was also partial to a good old movie, still am, and some more fashion icons I try to incorporate into my wardrobe are the likes of Doris Day, Ginger Rogers and of course Audrey Hepburn.

image

Classic lines which never go out of fashion, no matter the era!

image

But as well as all of this ultra-retro fashion, I am still an 80’s girl at heart, and although I don’t wear the neon now, and don’t have the big hair, Andie Walsh from Pretty Pink is never far from my heart, and a little bit of quirky often makes an appearance.

image

image

So who from your childhood inspires your clothing choices today?

Be sure to check out the other bevvy of beauties taking part in this awesome challenge!

Stay tuned for some more #Plus40Fabulous posts!
