Review Post: The Luxe Strapless Bra from Curvy Kate*

Review Post(1)

Hey there!

Today I want to talk strapless bras for those of us who were at the front of the queue when it came to giving out boobie-doos! Do you, like me, struggle?  Do you avoid the halter neck and strapless styles because of this?  Well, Curvy Kate may be about to be your saviour!

They already offered the Luxe strapless bra, but it stopped at a certain size (I’m afraid I can’t remember what it was, but it didn’t fit me).  They are now about to re-launch the Luxe up to a size 38J, yes that’s right, a 38J!  I appreciate this is still not big enough for some of my friends, but it is a step in the right direction, and hopefully if successful, they will increase their sizes again (fingers crossed).

I was kindly offered a chance to give it a trial run in the 38J, albeit it not quite my right size (38JJ-ish brand dependant), but it was worth a punt we thought! And here it is….

Not an ideal fit, it is a multi-way so comes with straps too, and I have included some pics with these (the lift with the straps is AMAZING!).  The Central Gore doesn’t sit flush, but the fit isn’t too bad at all, considering my only other option prior to this was to wear nothing!!!!

I wore this for the pics, and a friend helped me with those so I could send on to CurvyKate to assist with their forthcoming promotion, but I kept it on for another few hours with the straps, and then removed them and continued to wear the bra strapless for the evening with a jumpsuit (from George at Asda), as it was my birthday and I went out for dinner!

So, is this a God send for you too, and will you be trying out this amazing piece of scaffolding???  Let me know how you get on if you do!

The Good Side to Social Media…..

Hey there you crazy bunch!  Hope you are all well…

Today I want to bring some positives to the table about Social Media.  I hear so many bad things, trolls (I’ve been subjected to those directly myself), hacking, identity theft to name a few, but something lovely happened to me yesterday and it was all because of Social Media, and in particular Instagram.

Having been out with the girls at the weekend, getting a bit camera happy with the selfies, and uploading a plethora to my IG account, I was beyond amazed, honoured, humbled to be tagged in this….

plussizeproud_hi-res

A portrait of one my night out selfies!

I shared this across all my social media platforms immediately, receiving compliment after compliment on how amazing this was, and how the artist had captured me so well.

I took it upon myself to contact the artist to, again, express my gratitude, but to also ask if I could purchase a hi res copy of the portrait for myself…. But because I hadn’t commissioned it, they had only used my photo as practice, nearly didn’t post it because, as with many of their pieces, they don’t always think they have done a good job… Er, der…. they only went and gave it to me for no pennies!

So in return for this amazing thing, also in the lead up to my birthday (what a lovely gift), I wanted to share this artist with you, and I give you….. Blake Eason!  Blake can also can be found on Instagram here, so be sure to give him a follow, and maybe even purchase one of his current prints of plus size mermaids, super heroes/super villans, or even commission a piece for yourself!

Have you had a positive social media experience?  Met your significant other maybe, had someone do you a kind deed?  I’d love to hear about it….

Curvy Convention 2016 – What, Where, Who!

So, Saturday I put my glad rags on and headed to the Big Smoke, aka London Town, to meet up with some fabulous ladies and peruse what CurvyCon 2016 had on offer…. For those not aware of what Curvy Convention is, it was advertised as an event celebrating the fuller figure with everything plus size in one convenient location.

I first met the stunning babely babe that is Vicky at the train station.  We have been chatting on good old Social Media now for a good 12 months + but this was our first actual meeting in real life, and I was most definitely not disappointed!

We arrived at CurvyCon, which was held in a large room within a Church in Hackney, but spent the first hour catching up with Perelandra and Nicky Rockets….. This is what CurvyCon is all about for me, the socialising.  Slowly my gang started to arrive and the day took shape…. I looked at very little, if I am honest, other than Nicky Rockets, Voodoo Vixen, A Rose Like This Designs, and Apples and Pears Clothing.

In my opinion, I don’t think the venue or what was on offer was as good as last year, but then I don’t think I can pass much judgement as it all faded into the background once I was with my friends…. I probably could’ve saved myself the £5 ticket and just arranged a meet up and a wander round the shops!

Here are some pics I did manage to get, or someone got and I have since pinched!

What I wore…..

Dress – Hell Bunny from Simply Be UK (on sale)

Who I saw…. (not sure who’s pic this actually was in the end…. Stolen from Whatsapp chat thread!)

Front Row : Nikee

Best stand of the whole show!

Would I go to CurvyCon again…. Not sure.  I like the location, as London from the Cambs Fens is only a couple of hours on the train, and I love the social aspect, but I can do that anytime, so I will keep an open mind if it is on again next year.

Did you go to CurvyCon, what did you think, and why didn’t you come say Hi???

A Little Bit Dotty with Dolly & Dotty! *

It is no secret that I am a sucker for a vintage style dress, so when I kept seeing Dolly & Dotty popping up all over my social media newsfeed, and seeing they went up to a size 24, you can imagine how ecstatic I was when they agreed to send me something to review!

I was asked to give them a couple of styles I particularly liked, one of which was the Evelyn, and I was particularly drawn to the cherry print.  The lovely ladies at Dolly & Dotty advised they would get one of my choicest out to me and the very next day it all arrived, with a lovely free gift of this amazing tote bag, which has had lots of use since carrying my heels to change into once I get to work every day.

image

The dress has a high neckline, which is not my normal style, but this is why I wanted to try it as it is something different to what I normally wear. What you notice immediately with Dolly & Dotty is the exceptional quality. The quality is as good, if not better than, other vintage repro stores and without (in some cases) the price tag!

Wearing their size 24

I adore this dress, and in particular the print, and with the sun now finally making an appearance I am looking forward to wearing it lots and lots! I probably won’t wear the belt much though, a) because I am not much of a belt person anyway, but also b) not only with Dolly & Dotty, but with many other brands also I find the dresses/garments fit beautifully but the belts never seem to be the right size for me…. This was no exception, I find it small, even though the dress fit well, could even be deemed generous, but the belt was a struggle to get on the last hole (although I did as you can see…. just). Maybe I am an odd shape, but this hasn’t clouded my view in the slightest, and I only have praise and positive things to say about this brand and their products.

I know that some of my fellow Blogger Babes have reviewed items, and these can be found here (Rosie – in the same dress, see how it fits on a different size) and here (Tanya), and here you will see some of the other gems available at D&D.

Have you checked out Dolly & Dotty yet, do you in fact already have some of their products in your wardrobe?  I’d love to hear what you think of them…. I think they are fab!

Plus 40 Fabulous – April Edition – Skin Care

PLUS40FABULOUS ROUND

I’ve been a bit off radar recently as you know, so I have missed a few months of this great monthly group challenge…. However, make sure  you catch up with the other ladies, if you haven’t already.

This month Mookie came up with the idea of skincare regime, which is a toughie for me really.  Ever since I was in my 20’s I have dabbled every now and again, bought all the latest products by re-mortgaging my house, carried out the process maybe twice if I am lucky, and then the products collect dust somewhere in the house.

With this in mind, I don’t think I have suffered too badly for my lack of skincare, but then again in the infamous words of Debz….. “Fat don’t crack”…. Lol!

But what I do, sometimes, do when I take a selfie, and I think the skin isn’t looking quite as fresh as it could, I add a good old filter.  No girl should leave the house without one!

But here are a few pics for you to decide if I should have, may be, taken a bit more care of myself, some with and some without a filter…. You decide!

image image image image

No filter, and in one case, no make up!

image image image image

All with some form of filter…..

So, do you stick to a strict regime, go with the flow, or have a handy filter close by (shame they don’t work in real life eh?).

As I said earlier, make sure you check out the other babes, list below, you know the drill, click away and sit back with a cuppa.
